Compensation: $19.66-$23.00/hr DOE

Job Summary

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for all aspects of the payroll process including paying payroll taxes, monthly reporting, and reconciliation for Cornerstone Valley Inc (CVI).


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collect timekeeping data and payroll information

  • Enter data accurately and timely into payroll and administrative databases and software programs

  • Calculate wages, benefits, federal and state tax deductions

  • Process payroll for all CVI employees

  • Prepare and process paychecks and direct deposits

  • Maintain accurate records of payroll documentation and transactions

  • Respond to payroll related inquiries and resolve concerns

  • Perform account balance and payroll reconciliations

  • Complete Federal and State withholding tax reporting and filings

  • Complete Worker's compensation reporting and filings

  • Track Vacation and sick leave

  • Complete garnishment reporting and filing

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of pay records

  • Reconcile all payroll liability accounts monthly

  • Assist Accountant with various projects as needed

  • Ensure accuracy of all payroll W-2 reporting and filing

  • Partner with HR to ensure benefits are accurately and timely reported in payroll

  • Maintain payroll drive with updated payroll reports, quarterlies, W-2 and additional files as needed.

  • Verify all benefit billings with payroll system monthly for accuracy

  • Record new hires and terms in software system timely

  • Oversee Worker's Compensation audit

The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the job but are not all inclusive.


  • Associates degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred

  • 2 years of payroll experience required

  • Experience working with accounting and payroll software required

  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel)

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong written communication skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • High numerical aptitude

  • Detail oriented

  • Must be able to work effectively and perform quality work with multiple interruptions

  • Working knowledge of basic accounting principles and payroll practices

  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instruction

Working Conditions: 

Works in an office environment.  Must have good manual dexterity, can sit, stand, kneel, and squat, be able to frequently lift and carry up to 25 lbs. Must be able toto sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
